Trojans Sweep Preseason Weekend Games
Troy, OH - The Troy Trojans varsity hockey team, proud members of the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA), finished the first weekend of preseason action, carrying away two hard fought wins in as many nights.
Saturday night saw the Trojans hit the road to meet a tough Bishop Watterson program in suburban Columbus, fighting back in the third period to secure a 6-5 win to begin the 2022-2023 campaign. Newly transferred forward Mason Weaver and returning starter Gaven Burris both notched two points in the win, with team captain Cam Lombardo, Brady Smith, Andrew Condy and freshman Luke Harris lighting the lamp, with Harris earning his first varsity goal.
Sunday featured the team's home opener inside the historic Hobart Arena to kick off the second game in 24 hours, hosting non-conference opponent Desalles Stallions from the Capital Hockey Conference, their first appearance to Troy.
A large opening night crowd would be treated to an end-to-end barnburner, with both teams trading leads before the Trojans scored the eventual game winner just eight seconds into the third period. Despite a last minute barrage by the Stallions with an extra attacker, Junior netminder Noah Carver secured the win in goal with a 3-2 final score.
Scoring for the Trojans in Sunday night's win was Cooper Sexton, Brady Smith and captain Cam Lombardo.
Troy continues the preseason slate of exhibition games next Friday night when the team travels north to Toledo to battle NEC rival Whitmer Panthers at the Toledo Ice House.
The Trojans conclude the preseason with three games in three nights, starting on Friday, November 18 when they travel to Sylvania to meet the Southview Cougars, then return home to Hobart Arena for a two game homestand starting on Saturday November 19 against the St. Xavier Bombers and then on Sunday evening against Bishop Watterson.
