Trojans Split Weekend Home Stand

Troy, OH - The Troy Trojans varsity hockey team, a proud member of the OHSAA, split a weekend home stand against Cincinnati based conference opponents, thrilling the limited crowd inside the Historic Hobart Arena.

Saturday night, the Trojans honored three of their four senior classmembers prior to the matchup with the Cincinnati Elder Panthers for a COVID-rescheduled Senior Night at Hobart. Seniors Garrett Paff, Connor Sexton and Caden Lombardo were joined by family during pregame festivities, while senior Kellen Glover was out of the lineup and will be honored prior to a future Troy home game.

After a slow start and an early strike by the Panthers in the first period, the Trojans reset and engaged in scoring five unanswered goals to secure a convincing senior night victory. The win provided the Trojans their second win at home in as many attempts, and freshman goaltender Noah Carver (1) earned the win between the pipes.

Sunday night would be an attempt to extend the win streak on home ice as the Cincinnati Sycamore Aves invaded the Trojan city, fresh off a hard fought loss to conference leader Alter Knights on Saturday night in Dayton.

Again it was Carver in net who held his own in the crease, while the Trojans picked up right where the left off the night before in high energy tempo on both ends of the ice. An even match, Sycamore countered the Trojans with high energy play of their own, making for a thrilling end to end game. Despite the exciting action, play remained scoreless through three periods of regulation, forcing the Trojans first overtime game of the season. A late penalty against Troy in the waning seconds of the third allowed the Aves 4 on 3 advantage to start the bonus frame, and it would only take 35 seconds for the Aviators to whack in a third rebound past a sprawling Carver to grease out the game winner.

After the weekend series, the Trojans improved to a 2-0-1 record at home, and thanks to the OTL Sunday night, the Trojans still secured a point in the conference standings.
