Four minutes into the 3rd period Bowling Green scored again only to be answered again by Troy with 7:30 to play in the period.  The Trojans were on the penalty kill when Nick Usserman made an exception forecheck to steal the puck, brought it to the crease and put the puck in the upper right corner of the net for the short-handed goal.  Later in the third period Troy's strong team defense held BG scoreless in an extended 5 on 3.

Coach Walters said that he could tell at the first puck drop Troy was going to have a great game as the intensity and energy levels were high.  "This win is a tribute to the hard work and effort this team put forth.  Not only did we win, but we played excellent team defense, Jake Eldridge was great in goal, we outshot them 31 to 20, and we had more scoring chances than them as well.  These men played like real champions!" Let me tell You About Trojan Hockey!!

The Troy High School’s varsity ice hockey team are the Trojans. Located twenty minutes north of Dayton, Ohio, in a community of 22,000, we are entering our 16th season as a varsity sport. The Trojans play in the Southwest Ohio High School Hockey League. Other members of the SWOHSHL are Centerville, Beavercreek, Archbishop Alter and Springboro joining Troy in the North Division; and South Division Members Cincinnati St. Xavier, Oxford Talawanda, Elder and Sycamore. These teams join 13 varsity programs from Columbus to comprise the District from which a champion is selected for the State Final Four at Nationwide Arena in March.

The Trojans were born in the spring of 1996 with the help of a group of hard working dedicated parents, along with the support of the Troy Athletic Department, Hobart Arena, and the Troy community. Coach Rick Szabo was added and the dream of varsity hockey was realized in November of that year when the Trojans played their first game, a 4–2 home ice victory over Dublin. The puck that scored the first goal and a stick signed by all the players from that first game are still on display in the front trophy case at Troy High School.

Trojan Varsity Hockey has been able to afford the opportunity to play a varsity sport to over 100 student athletes. The program also gives the many kids playing in the Troy youth programs and various local travel programs, something to work hard for and aspire to. For the players wanting to further develop their hockey talents, the program works hard at teaching and improving game skills. Last Season Trojans Kyle Toy and Nick Usserman placed First Team SWOHSHL, Trojans Sean Clawson and Austin Erisman were named 2nd Team SWOHSHL, and Trojans Hunter Morris, Brandon Beaty, Erik Trudeau, Chris Ullery, Jake Eldridge, and Eric Wright all received Honoarble Mention SWOHSHL. Past Trojan alumni have moved on to play in USA Hockey junior hockey programs and for University club teams.
